Why did I decide to specialise in teaching yoga for cancer? To be honest, I’m not entirely sure. I felt I was ‘called’ a bit and I know that sounds totally random, so forgive my vagueness. But I could have done pregnancy yoga, yin, yoga nidra, kundalini, all of which interest me too (and to be honest, I still might), but yoga for people who are affected by cancer just seemed right. So, thanks to the Yoga for Cancer Academy here I am, offering classes and 1:1 sessions in Warrington.
I’ve also recently lost a dear friend to bowel cancer. I know that some gentle yoga and breathing techniques might have helped her through her various treatments and waiting room hours and if I can provide that service to even one person in the future, I think Paula would be proud.
What are the benefits of practicing yoga if you have cancer? The benefits of practicing yoga with or without a cancer diagnosis are the same. But, with greater fatigue, increased worry and the many and varied possible side effects of treatment we’ll explore tools that could bring a window of calm and help with the days that are a bit more difficult.
Your yoga journey, whether it is on the mat, or in a chair or even in bed will bring so many benefits including, but not limited to:
Better sleep Reduced pain as we focus on the nervous system Reduced cancer related fatigue Improved fitness Improved mobility and strength Better breathing, (and practices to help with radiotherapy) Reduced stress Support with lymphoedema management and prevention
...And if you practice in a group setting we’ll perhaps also find a bit of community, friendship and support from other people who understand. Or maybe we’ll chat about something entirely different!
Do I have to be post treatment? No, but you just need clearance from your medical team to say you can do some gentle movement and this is something we’ll review together throughout your treatment.
Where are the classes held? Classes will be held in Lymm Village Hall, WA13 0BJ Monday 12.45-1.45 Starting on Monday 26 October 2026
What do I need to bring? You’ll need to bring a yoga mat and a blanket. If getting down onto the floor is not possible for you at the moment, you can practice in a chair, its the same, just a different angle! Maybe you'll do a bit of both each week.
How do I book in? Drop me an email or give me a call for a quick chat. Or go directly to my booking app and book your place. I will ask you to complete a short medical questionnaire so that I can prepare a class to suit your needs and which feels supportive. [email protected]
How much is a class? Classes are £10 per session and paid in advance via the booking app, or by other agreed arrangement. Classes include a 50 minute practice and a hot drink.
A friend can come with your for the first session for free or a donation to cancer research.
What about colds and coughs? No coughs and colds in this class please to protect anyone who has low immunity. And that is the same for me, if I have a cold or possibly contagious illness I will cancel the class or ask another specialist teacher to cover for me.
